It's Autumn @ Fair Play

It is the last round for the "El Mundo" game setting at Fair Play. I am a bit sad about that since I loved that setting a lot. But at the same time, I'm totally excited to introduce you to the new one at the end of this month. Yes, I had the chance to sneak a peek already, and some others as well. I can assure you, everyone is looking forward to it! So, if you want to see "El Mundo" again before it'll be gone for good, visit Fair Play! And in case you have missed my interview with Kaleidos where she tells us on which game the "El Mundo" setting was based on, you can still read it here. Watch out for upcoming posts because, of course!, I'll give you a sneak peek of the new event location with all interesting background information about it just shortly before its doors will be officially opened for the public.

It's Autumn @ Fair Play (last round for "El Mundo" board game setting)
For now, Fair Play "El Mundo" is decorated a bit, and the designers bring to you offers inspired by autumn and Halloween. For this post, I chose parts of the Queen Of Autumn outfit (it comes with an additional matching flexi prim coat and mesh sleeves) by BlueMoon enterprises to get into the mood for fall, and to celebrate it royal, hehe! The halo is one of the various commons in the gacha machine of ERSCH which is also available at the event.

Have fun shopping and exploring!

Interview: Totally Top Shelf

In 2014, Darkylicious von Savage (darkmatter.wizardly) took her chance on proposing an event idea to Nicii Nitely, owner of Fantasy Gacha Carnival, who offered to sponsor an event. Nicii was convinced about the concept and the name, and so the story of a today well-known and popular event began: Totally Top Shelf.

Originally, Totally Top Shelf was located on a gorean roleplay sim. But as the event began to grow, Darkylicious wanted to expanse from the focus on gorean fantasy fashion to fantasy fashion in general. They would also need a bigger location, and it was Duchess Flux who invited her to join the Ippos Community. „I thought it would be perfect. And like you mentioned the key word ‚community‘: I don’t like the way events are portrayed such as competition. Most of the same designers are in the same events across the board. Here we help each other to gain as much publicity for our designers involved. As I say to anyone here from The Secret Affair to The Fantasy Collective: If i can help any way with getting the word across to as many people as possible, I will. Here we are all like a extended family!“

The fact that a lot of designers have been with Totally Top Shelf from the start is just one proof for this statement. Like for every other project’s start, she confesses though: „It hasn’t always been easy. But I am so happy to see to what our little event has grown. It’s really the designers, the bloggers, and the buying public of Second Life who make the event what it is today.“ Today, that is one year later, and the first round after their 1-year-anniversary is about to start. And it’s also a special round because one of the most popular events of the year awaits us, Halloween.
Interview: Totally Top Shelf
„A Halloween-themed event was obvious for a round in October. So we decided to have a spooky event but with a twist“, Darkylicious reveals. „The new series of The Walking Dead is coming. We just had to do zombies! But I wanted more. I am a big fan of Wes Craven and his horror films. It was such a shock when he recently passed away. So I decided why not bring one of his best creation to life in Second Life, so to speak: his famous figure Fred Kruger.“ She laughs and adds: „I think it comes across as that well. At least, I hope.“
Interview: Totally Top Shelf
With so many events on the grid, it is a big challenge to bring originality, and to offer a theme which hasn’t been done yet, and where all designers can come up with an idea for an item. But since I have had the chance to visit the location already and could take a few sneak peeks of the upcoming offers, I am sure that people will like this round and its setting. Especially with activated windlights, the event location provides an atmosphere that indeed could give you some nightmares on the street. I myself felt like I have stumbled in the midth of an apocalypse. The set up of the event location was a joint effort by Darkylicious and her partner Jon. Jon, by the way, is currently also working on a gorean roleplay sim project. Of course, I had to take advantage of that by interviewing him about it so that I may introduce you to him with an upcoming interview within the next few days.
Interview: Totally Top Shelf
Darkylicious, Jon and Heatherfury are the hard working management team behind Totally Top Shelf. Their declared goal is to to make the event as fun as possible for everyone involved. „We work busy in the background to relieve the stress that can be caused in events. I myself believe it shouldn‘t be stressful but fun! Because if you have a real life job already you wouldn’t want to have a second one as soon as you log on.“ Another tool to support designers is Pinterest. „I have just recently started to use Pinterest. It helps a lot with themes as we can share ideas for inspiration. Its functionality is perfect for this purpose.“ They also ask their staff about their ideas and what they would like to see. Their xmas round which was like a seelie and unseelie court winter wonderland was actually a suggestion by one of their designers. „It made it a fantastic event! I really like to listen to our designers and bloggers, and to take their ideas on board.“

Totally Top Shelf has developed a lot within a year, and its popularity also shows in the number of designers and bloggers who regularly apply. I am curious what she would recommend on a personal level to people who would love to become a team member. „Have fun!“, she states first. „And don’t take things to heart if it doesn’t go the way you visioned. And always work well with the people you intend on working with.“ She points out again how important it is for her that it feels familiar for everyone: „I look at each and everyone in our event group as an individual, not as a number in a group. For me, it is a family.“
Interview: Totally Top Shelf
Last but not least, I have to ask her one last personal question: „What will be your costume for Halloween this year?“ Darkylicious bursts out in laughter: „Oh my God! I haven’t any ideas really. But…“, she then thinks out loud with a cheeky grin, „I was thinking of lots of liquid latex, special effects make up and black wear.“ We’re looking forward to that! A big thank you to Darkylicious for taking her time and telling us more about the Totally Top Shelf event.

Valhalla @ The Secret Affair

Valhalla @ The Secret Affair

The Secret Affair is one of the shopping events where you really should stay for a while and go exploring the location! They put always so much effort in decorating an appropriate setting for the current theme. This round is themed Valhalla.

Valhalla @ The Secret Affair

With its snowy and misty landscape, the stonehenge setting and its mysterious fonds, the event location let you escape into the fascinating world of the Norse Mythology.

During my exploring tour, I was wearing this stunning dress from aisling which is available at the event. The details of the chest piece are an eyecatcher! Each color combination of the dress includes two versions and a HUD to change the metal of the chest piece.

Interview: The Little Mermaid @ Enchantment

Interview w/Sorchiee & Duchess Flux from Enchantment

I am officially enchanted! Today, I had the great opportunity to have a little talk with two adorable and well-known ladies: Sorchiee, and Duchess Flux. They are currently setting up their upcoming event Enchantment with its theme „The Little Mermaid“. It will run from August 14th until September 4th, 2015.

„When we came up with our theme, it was, of course, as suprising as funny for us to notice that other events had similar themes as well. But at the same time, it seems very understandable for July and August to create a theme around and under water“, they tell. „What differs our theme from the other events is, that we didn’t choose a general approach to a mermaid theme but the fairytale of The Little Mermaid. It matches also our event concept: Enchantment is a Second Life Shopping event, that is focused around fairytales.“
Enchanted August
The Enchantment bosses are all excited and have started with a few little events around the upcoming "The Little Mermaid" theme round already.
- picture shown with kind permission of Duchess Flux -
Enchantment has been around before already, four times a year, but with another concept which was originally created by Voshie Paine. Voshie brought us the „Hop-Around“ and the Stamp Machine which was much fun because we got to see all the mainstores and were hunting for those stamps on the cards. But the event became too much for Voshie. She was going to close Enchantment down. Duchess and Sorchiee wouldn’t want to accept that. And we are glad they didn’t, and that Voshie – still supporting as team member - allowed them to take over. „All our incredible designers were handpicked by the two of us. We strive to offer the best of the best“, they explain, and the line-up on their official homepage approves it: FDD Stories, Alegria, Dead Dollz, !gO!, Lumae, Pure Poison, just to name a very few at this point. While most of the designers are taking specific choices on The Little Mermaid, some designers like The Plastik, Aisling or Azoury are taking a more artistic route in interpreting the fairytale. „And we love it!“, they claim.
Interview w/Sorchiee & Duchess Flux from Enchantment
The rezzing-friendly, fantasy-inspired sims Ippos, Pegasoi and Nymphai have many nice corners to explore under their forestal cover
The artistic route does certainly not come out of the blue. The three sims Ippos, Pegasoi and Nymphai, where such events like Enchantment, Totally Top Shelf, The Secret Affair are located – as well as The Fantasy Collective on a neighbour sim – are home to many creative minds. Various creators & designers from fashion to decoration to poses and more, photographers, bloggers, event managers, roleplayers and all in-between are living here next door to each other. It allows to offer a place with a huge exchange of ideas. „All three sims are fantasy inspired and built by our sim designer Divine Paine. They were created with photographers and bloggers in mind. That’s also the reason why they are rezz-friendly. We want them to be able to take the pictures they want. But our Ippos Community is not just a place to take pictures. When we started to rent out, we wanted to have an environment where people feel equal, safe, and where they can contribute to a big community of like-minded people.“
Interview w/Sorchiee & Duchess Flux from Enchantment
It looks all so calm and quiet but don't be fooled ...
But with all those on-going events, didn’t it become all about competition for everyone? „We have indeed various events on the sims with different influences from roleplay worlds such as Elves, Gor, or Sci-Fi. But with all those varying backgrounds, we are not competitive at all. We really complement each other. Everyone is always willing to lend a helping hand. It makes our Ippos Community something really special.“

Ippos, by the way, is one of the first sims to be released by Linden Lab. One day, Pegasoi popped up somewhat out of nowhere and they took their chance to purchase it. When more new events started and people asked them to host their events nearby, it inspired them to buy the third: „Though our sims are residential and commercial, Nymphai is our first totally commercial sim with stores from Figment, Rowenwood, Ravenshot Interiors, Mer-Chandise Cove, and more.“ Is there anything else they have in mind but business, you might now wonder? Oh yes, they have! They always try to bring more inspiration to the grid and the fantasy roleplay community. Just recently, a lot of bloggers and photographers from the Ippos Community gathered to contribute to a big story called „Defenders of Ippos“ where they presented not just their prefered fantasy fashion but gave an insight in their virtual adventures.
Interview w/Sorchiee & Duchess Flux from Enchantment
... these are not sweet little waves chopping around archaic stones. These are racing vortexes!
Their adventures and sims are also source of inspiration for their event themes. And what was the inspiration for the „The Little Mermaid“ theme of this round of Enchantment? „That film is one of our favourites!“ – As unexpected as this may sound, film is and can be art, too. And Enchantment is into many arts: „We have also other events going on during Enchantment. We have an art opening from The Last Unicorn Gallery. We have a Movie night. We have also our own Little Mermaid show at Lady Garden Cabaret on August 22nd.“
Interview w/Sorchiee & Duchess Flux from Enchantment
The whole event location design have been set up by sim designer Divine Paine
Then I have to step quickly aside. „The art behind you is being set up for the event“, the ladies explain griningly. And I realize that I have talked to them for about nearly an hour already. Time to stop to pester them with more questions because they have only a few days left to finish the setup. And while we are unpatiently waiting for the event to open its doors, the three sims invite you to be explored. Trust me: you’ll be officially enchanted as well!

To the Sands with Secret Affair

To the Sands with Secret Affair
Just a few hours ago, The Secret Affair has opened its new round themed "To the Sands". I am showing you items from aisling's newest gacha: Aphrodite. I made a version a bit more moderate and was happy to see how well it matched with a few pieces from a previous release by aisling, the Dangara gacha.

The gem colors of the Aphrodite commons can be changed via HUD. For the hands, you get even two versions! A circle, or a shell. To wrap up my outfit, I have mixed it with brand new bracers from EarthStones which are currently available at Fair Play, and two other recent releases: first, the Shaaswat hair by little bones which includes a version with and without an attached scarf, and which allows you to hide or show the headpiece as well as change your scarf & gem colors from the headpiece via HUD. And second, the Princess of Lunimba tiara by Independent Objects which was first seen at this year's Fantasy Faire. Finally, I found a nice facepaint at Madrid Solo which is free for the Body Art Hunt. This hunt offers many great prizes, I highly recommend it! And the best is, you have all previews on the official homepage, and it's also not a big hunt so you can easily finish it during a short time within an evening.

And before I give you the full credits, I really have to show you a peek of The Secret Affair's event location! I was totally excited about this huge arena and its decoration, and had to take a few snapshots. Though my pictures can't even do it justice, you really should go and visit yourself!

Interview: Fair Play - fantasy fairs inspired by games

Rubilyn (left) visits Kaleidos Hope (right) at the upcoming Fair Play: El Mundo fair

Fair Play is a new fantasy fair event hitting the grid. Now one could think "Please, not another one" but this fair has special peculiarities. Not only the fairs are permanent - no stress for designers nor customers! - but the inspiration by games allows a design you won't find elsewhere. On July 1st, Fair Play: El Mundo will open its doors. I took my chance for a visit and a little interview beforehand!

El Mundo is the name of an ancient board game of the 13th century. Four players decide in favor of one season and one element. The realization of this game for Fair Play appears in four season landscapes, framed by four considerable temples and guarding angels.

It can't be overseen: for each season, even the animals have been picked carefully

Kaleidos Hope (kaleidos.resident), owner and creator of Fair Play, explains: "Many fantasy fairs have impressed me a lot, I even became a sort of a fair-junky! Over time, the idea began to grow to create my own fantasy-related fair. In the beginning, it was just an intellectual game. But then I caught myself building my first fair draft and just couldn't let loose anymore. As a passionate supporter of games who adores roleplays as much as board and strategy games, I knew already that I'd wanted a fair inspired by games. When I created Linopolis, I was not happy with the result yet. I did a lot of research on the internet and finally found El Mundo. The theme of this game fascinated me immediately, and the composition of the board included everything I was looking for since I strived to find a fair design which allows customers a clear and concerted overview of all creators and their products as soon as they arrive at the landing point."

This ancient game was the inspiration for the fair

By zooming out, the whole game board design can be clearly seen in all its beauty

At a first glance from above, it is immediately obvious how much love to details Kaleidos Hope put in the visual structure of Fair Play: El Mundo. The board game was built by herself. Asked about the decoration, she admits laughing: "I doubt that I was good in designing plants, trees and animals! I prefer to leave that to all those other awesome designers in SL. My designs have been celtic necklaces and pendants so far, and the positive reactions about these creations were a huge motivation for me to not give up whenever I came to a point where I doubted my skills to build the fair design. I tried to think of it as a huge gem and was exuberantly happy when people complimented me on the results."

Harmony in colors, flora and fauna. A place to relax.

Will we see new fair designs soon? "Actually, I have quite a few ideas in my mind already. But for now, I'm looking forward to the start of Fair Play: El Mundo and I would be delighted if it brings as much joy to all customers and creators as it has given to me so far. It's not just the fair design, it's the whole atmosphere in the team that makes me all exciting for the start. I found wonderful creators and enthusiastic bloggers who have supported me a lot to make the impossible possible. I am so proud and happy!"

Indeed, this fair has a special spirit. It is about playing fair, being a community, admiring creativity, living the most fantastic ideas and enjoying all things nice. Guiding ideas we also find in the philosophy of SL as well. Something I was always fascinated with in SL is, whenever people are able to express what SL is meant to be. Your world, your imagination. I would go even further and say: SL is about fair play. Fair Play is about SL. Please feel welcome to visit, explore, enjoy and shop. May the spirit of Fair Play: El Mundo be an inspiration for your daily SL!
